I must confess that I have a sweet tooth the size of Texas. And as a self-proclaimed dessert enthusiast, I felt it my duty to share my "find" with all of you.........a.k.a. the holy grail of baked goods. It's a fantastic blog called Flour Me With Love, and it's run by the baked goods goddess, Lisa Teeter. Lisa brings dessert to YOU using a pictorial step-by-step process that makes it easy for anyone to replicate her recipes in their own kitchen. Read on, and prepare to be hungry!
What is your name?
Tell our readers a bit about Flour Me With Love and how it came to be. Do you blog full-time?
I've always loved to cook, however baking is a passion of mine. When my littlest went to kindergarten I had some extra time to myself so I decided to start Flour Me With Love. I want others to see what a pleasure it is to bake. I show step-by-step photo tutorials so it's easy to follow along and you get to see how simple it is. I use every-day ingredients and turn them into something special. I blog part-time; posting three times a week.
How has social media impacted your life and your business?
When I first started my site, I didn't have any social media accounts. After a year of blogging I decided to make them and that has grown my site tremendously! It's a great way for others to see and share what you've created. It's opened up many doors for me and I'm so grateful for that.
What are 3 of your favorite recipes and why?
One of our favorite recipes is Apple Fritter Bread. We love apple fritters, however I don't fry our food so this is a great alternative to all that deliciousness without all the grease. I top it off with a warm vanilla glaze and it is amazing! The second one would be Strawberry & Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Cupcakes. We love coffee cakes because they are so versatile; the addition of cream cheese and preserves takes them over the top. Plus with them being made in cupcake form, they are portable! Third would be Almond Joy Brownie Bites. The combination of flavors is perfect, they're so simple to prepare, they make a beautiful presentation and no matter where I take them everyone wants the recipe!
Tell us about your baking background and why you love it.
I've always loved to tinker around in the kitchen with my parents. They made almost everything from scratch and I always thought that was so rewarding. When I went to college I started out getting a degree in Elementary Education, however I ended up with a degree in Culinary Arts! Once I got married, I loved cooking and baking for my husband; it's a form of relaxation for me. Then we started having kids and they wanted to help me in the kitchen. I love the time we spend together, the memories we make and all the silly recipes we create.
As a mother of four, how do you find time to blog, bake and take care of your family?
My family comes first and with four kids, it can be quite hectic! When I started Flour Me With Love I knew I had to keep a light schedule so I only post three times a week. On Sunday I do a blog party, the features on Wednesday and then the dessert recipe on Saturday. All four kids are in school now (and I'm a stay-at-home mom) so while they're gone I have the day to myself. I create the recipe, photo it, edit, and do the post. If by chance I don't get it done then I will wait until they go to bed and work once they're asleep. Using the post scheduler helps a lot too!
What are 3 things most people don't know about you?
I've been married for almost 20 years! My husband and I were high school sweethearts who have been together since he was in the ninth grade! I'm a picky eater! Even though I love to cook, there are a lot of foods that I won't eat. I drink coffee or tea ALL day. I get up and have a cup of hot tea, then I switch to hot coffee. Around mid-afternoon I switch to homemade sugar-free/low carb iced coffee. At night it's back to hot coffee and then another cup (or two) of hot tea before I go to bed.
What are your goals for the upcoming year? Have you had any thoughts about publishing a cook book? (I'll buy!!!)
My biggest goal would be to publish a cook book. I love sharing with all my readers and it would be such an honor to give them something they will cherish, as well as my family. I'm not sure if self-publishing is the way to go or seek out a publisher. I hope my site continues to grow. I love seeing all the different people visit my site, and the sweet comments they make regarding my recipes.
